It is most often used either as a self-identifier of “NEET” culture or to mock a target from a place of contempt, in particular targets who are, or are deemed to be autistic. Popularized in hateful and nihilistic spaces on 4Chan, Ree originated as an onomatopoeic reference to a viral video of a frog making a high pitched sound that users chose to associate with Pepe the frog. Ree was commonly used by the alt-right." "REJECT MODERNITY, EMBRACE TRADITION | SLOGAN Expression popularized in fashwave memes, often alongside support for traditionalist fascism and especially the ideas of Julius Evola. It appears frequently as a meme format in which “modernity” is conflated with representations of diversity, sex, progressive politics, 2SLGBTQ+ representation, or even Judaism. “Tradition” is often represented by images of white, heteronormative families or authoritarian demonstrations meant to invoke nostalgia for fascist viewers.
